CONSULTLINK THOROUGHBRED BLOODSTOCK was formed as a result of Dick Aronson's disillusion with the methods
of selecting thoroughbred yearlings.
Back in 1992 when he decided to use his knowledge of genetics and trial methodology in furthering his pashion for thoroughbred
horse racing, research showed that only 2% of thoroughbreds paid their way, corruption in the buying and selling of thoroughbreds
was so endemic that many of those involved thought it was quite normal and to top it off selecting yearlings on the
"best to the best" principle of breeding obviously didn't work either.
The world's top priced thoroughbred yearlings over a 25 year period averaged a cost of US$2million and earned less than
10% of that back.
To get that kind of money obviously all those animals were fantastically bred and looked magnificent.
Hence followed a 2 year period of establishing what was probably the Southern Hemisphere's largest library relating
to thoroughbreds, intense study of thoroughbred genetics, visits to major thoroughbred studs in Kentucky, research into
feeding of thoroughbred horses and many other horse related activities.
The culmination of all this work was the software which is currently used by Consultlink to select thoroughbreds likely
to produce superior performances.
